The Words

In the conclusion of “The Words,” Rory Jansen (Bradley Cooper) confesses to his wife, Dora (Zoe Saldana), about the plagiarism of the novel that brought him fame and success. The revelation shatters their relationship, and Dora leaves Rory, unable to forgive the betrayal of trust.

As Rory grapples with the consequences of his actions, he also faces a confrontation with the Old Man (Jeremy Irons), the true author of the stolen manuscript. The Old Man listens to Rory’s confession and acknowledges the pain and turmoil caused by the unauthorized use of his life’s story.

The film doesn’t provide a neat resolution to Rory’s moral dilemma. Instead, it emphasizes the profound and lasting impact of his choices on both his personal life and the lives of those he affected. The narrative leaves Rory in a state of reflection and remorse, grappling with the weight of the ethical transgressions he committed in his pursuit of literary success.

“The Words” concludes by underscoring the complex interplay between fiction and reality, morality and ambition. It prompts viewers to contemplate the enduring consequences of actions and the sometimes blurry line between inspiration and plagiarism in the world of storytelling. The film’s conclusion invites reflection on the ethical responsibilities that come with creative endeavors and the toll of living with the fallout from one’s choices.
