The film begins in Bikini Bottom, where the secret Krabby Patty formula mysteriously disappears, leading to chaos in the underwater city. SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) is accused of being the thief, but he believes that someone has stolen the formula and framed him.
