The Gunman

The story follows Jim Terrier (played by Sean Penn), a former special forces operative who, in his past, carried out an assassination in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After the mission, Terrier is forced to go into hiding, leaving behind the woman he loves, Annie (played by Jasmine Trinca).

Years later, Terrier returns to the Congo, working as a humanitarian and attempting to make amends for his violent past. However, he becomes a target when a hit squad comes after him. Realizing that he’s in danger, Terrier goes on the run, seeking answers about who wants him dead and why.

As Terrier digs deeper, he uncovers a conspiracy involving his former colleagues, including Felix (played by Javier Bardem) and Cox (played by Mark Rylance). The conspiracy is tied to corporate interests in the region and the exploitation of its natural resources.

In the climax, Terrier confronts those responsible for the conspiracy and seeks justice for his actions. The film combines action sequences with a political thriller narrative, addressing themes of corruption, betrayal, and redemption.

“The Gunman” received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for Sean Penn’s committed performance but criticism for the film’s familiar plot and lack of originality within the action genre.
