The Great Gatsby

As the narrative unfolds, the story is presented through the perspective of Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), who becomes entangled in the lives of Gatsby and the Buchanans. Gatsby throws extravagant parties in the hope that Daisy will attend one and notice him.

In the climax, tensions escalate between Gatsby, Daisy’s husband Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton), and Daisy herself. Gatsby’s past and his unrequited love for Daisy come to a head as secrets are revealed. Tom exposes Gatsby’s criminal activities, and Daisy struggles with her feelings for both men.

The climax culminates in a tragic sequence of events. Gatsby is shot and killed by George Wilson (Jason Clarke), who believes Gatsby was driving the car that killed his wife Myrtle (Isla Fisher). Daisy and Tom leave town, avoiding any consequences for their actions.

In the resolution, Nick tries to arrange a proper funeral for Gatsby, but few attend. The film ends with Nick disillusioned by the decadence and moral decay he has witnessed. He returns to the Midwest, leaving behind the excesses of the East.

“The Great Gatsby” received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for its visual style, performances, and soundtrack, but criticism for its departure from the source material and over-the-top presentation. The film’s interpretation of the classic novel sparked debates among audiences and literary purists.
