The Canterville Ghost

At the end of “The Canterville Ghost,” the story reaches a heartwarming and redemptive conclusion. The ghost, Sir Simon de Canterville, who has been haunting Canterville Chase for centuries, is finally able to find peace and pass on to the afterlife. This is made possible through the compassion and courage of the young Virginia Otis, who befriends Sir Simon and helps him confront the wrongs of his past. Virginia aids the ghost by fulfilling the ancient prophecy detailed in the family’s stained-glass window, which requires a pure-hearted person to weep for him and pray for his soul. Through her genuine kindness, Virginia is able to help Sir Simon make amends for his past misdeeds, allowing his spirit to be released from the earthly realm. The story concludes with the ghost’s redemption, the lifting of the curse on the Canterville family, and the celebration of Virginia’s bravery as she marries the Duke of Cheshire, with whom she has fallen in love. The tale ends on a note of joy and the triumph of love and forgiveness over bitterness and despair.
