The Apostle

The film follows Sonny Dewey (played by Robert Duvall), a charismatic and passionate Pentecostal preacher in rural Texas. Sonny’s life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers that his wife Jessie (played by Farrah Fawcett) is having an affair with the youth minister, Horace (played by Todd Allen).

Fueled by jealousy and rage, Sonny confronts Horace and accidentally kills him in a fit of anger. Realizing the gravity of his actions, Sonny goes on the run, leaving behind his family, his congregation, and his life as a preacher.

Sonny adopts a new identity as “The Apostle E.F.,” and travels to a small Louisiana town where he begins preaching and ministering to a new congregation. Despite his troubled past, Sonny’s magnetic personality and powerful sermons attract a loyal following, and he quickly becomes a respected and influential figure in the community.
