Senior Year

“Senior Year” (2022) is a comedy film directed by Alex Hardcastle, starring Rebel Wilson as Stephanie Conway, a woman who wakes up from a 20-year coma and decides to go back to high school to earn her diploma and reclaim her status as the popular girl, as well as fulfill her dream of becoming prom queen.

The film follows Stephanie as she navigates the vastly different high school culture of the 2020s compared to what she remembered from the year 2000, when she was a cheerleader before her accident. The world has changed significantly, and Stephanie finds herself out of touch with current trends, technology, and social norms.

Throughout the movie, Stephanie struggles to fit in with the current high school students, who are more inclusive and less concerned with the traditional social hierarchies that were prevalent during her original senior year. She also reconnects with her former classmates, who have since moved on with their lives, and she confronts the reality that she has missed out on two decades of experiences.

Despite the challenges, Stephanie remains determined to achieve her goals. She learns to adapt, makes new friends, and even finds love. The film combines humor with heart as it explores themes of identity, second chances, and the importance of personal growth.

In the end, Stephanie realizes that the high school status she once valued is not as important as she thought. She grows to appreciate the more meaningful aspects of life, like friendship and being true to oneself. “Senior Year” provides a comedic yet touching look at what it means to grow up and the journey of self-discovery, no matter what age you are (IMDb; Wikipedia).
