The movie follows Alice (Milla Jovovich), the protagonist of the series, as she returns to Raccoon City, the source of the T-virus outbreak that led to the zombie apocalypse. The Red Queen, an artificial intelligence, informs Alice that there is an airborne antivirus located in the Hive, the Umbrella Corporation’s underground facility.
Throughout the film, Alice battles various mutated creatures and confronts the Umbrella Corporation’s forces, led by Dr. Alexander Isaacs (Iain Glen). Isaacs reveals that he is on the verge of unleashing a new apocalypse, intending to wipe out what remains of humanity and start anew with a chosen few.
In the climax, Alice confronts Isaacs in the Hive, where he is preparing to release the antivirus in a way that would destroy everything. The Red Queen, who has turned against Isaacs, aids Alice in her fight. During the battle, Alice manages to inject herself with the antivirus, gaining enhanced abilities.
As the Hive collapses, Alice and Isaacs engage in a final showdown. Alice defeats Isaacs and releases the airborne antivirus, neutralizing the T-virus and saving what’s left of humanity. However, the process also results in her death.
In a twist, it is revealed that the events in the film are part of a simulation created by the Red Queen to test Alice’s abilities and commitment to stopping the Umbrella Corporation. Alice wakes up in an underground facility, where she meets Wesker (Shawn Roberts), a former Umbrella operative who is now working against the corporation.
The film concludes with Alice leading a group of survivors out of the facility, hinting at the possibility of a new beginning for humanity. The closing scenes suggest that the fight against the Umbrella Corporation continues, leaving room for future stories within the “Resident Evil” universe.
“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” received mixed reviews, but it provided closure to the film series while leaving the door open for potential future installments or spin-offs.
