The film begins in 1923 Tennessee, where two young boys, Rafe McCawley (played by Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (played by Josh Hartnett), develop a close friendship while dreaming of becoming pilots. As they grow up, their dreams become a reality when they join the U.S. Army Air Corps and become skilled fighter pilots.
