Charlie Mortdecai is an eccentric art dealer and part-time rogue who is faced with financial difficulties. In order to restore his wealth, Mortdecai is reluctantly drawn into a complex international plot involving a stolen painting that may lead to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
As Mortdecai navigates the world of art theft, deception, and international intrigue, he faces various challenges, including encounters with MI5 agent Martland (Ewan McGregor), his loyal manservant Jock Strapp (Paul Bettany), and his estranged wife Johanna (Gwyneth Paltrow).
In the climax, Mortdecai discovers the hidden Nazi gold, and a series of comedic and chaotic events unfold. The film concludes with Mortdecai and his associates overcoming the various obstacles they face, and Mortdecai manages to escape his predicaments, retaining his eccentric charm.
“Mortdecai” received mostly negative reviews from critics, citing its disjointed plot and uneven humor. While some praised Johnny Depp’s comedic performance, the film struggled to resonate with audiences, and it did not perform well at the box office.
