“Mighty Joe Young” is a 1998 adventure film directed by Ron Underwood. It’s a remake of the 1949 film of the same name. The movie tells the story of a giant gorilla named Joe and the bond he shares with Jill Young, a young woman who raised him from infancy.

The climax of the film occurs during a public appearance by Joe at a wildlife benefit. Strasser and his henchmen attack the event, causing chaos and endangering the lives of the attendees. Joe breaks free from his restraints and goes on a rampage to protect Jill and the others.
In the end, Joe sacrifices himself to save Jill and Gregg from an explosion triggered by Strasser’s men. The film concludes with Jill and Gregg mourning Joe’s death but finding solace in knowing that he died a hero.
