Kingdom Come

The film begins with the sudden death of the Slocumb family’s patriarch, Bud Slocumb. His passing prompts his estranged family members to gather at their rural homestead in Lula, Georgia, for his funeral and burial.

The Slocumb family is dysfunctional, to say the least. Ray Bud (played by LL Cool J) is Bud’s eldest son, a workaholic who constantly clashes with his wife, Lucille (played by Vivica A. Fox). Junior (played by Anthony Anderson) is Ray Bud’s unemployed brother, who struggles with his weight and self-esteem. Charisse (played by Jada Pinkett Smith) is Ray Bud’s sister, a successful lawyer who is at odds with her husband, Kenny (played by Darius McCrary).

As the family gathers for Bud’s funeral, old resentments and unresolved conflicts quickly resurface. Ray Bud and Junior butt heads over their father’s legacy, while Charisse and Kenny grapple with their marital issues. Lucille, tired of being ignored and disrespected by her husband, decides to take a stand and demand the respect she deserves.

Amidst the chaos and dysfunction, the family must come together to plan Bud’s funeral and burial. Along the way, they confront their past traumas, reconcile their differences, and rediscover the bonds that unite them as a family.

In a poignant and emotional climax, the Slocumb family comes together to lay Bud to rest and honor his memory. Through tears and laughter, they find closure and healing, realizing that their love for each other is stronger than their differences.

In the end, the Slocumb family emerges from Bud’s funeral stronger and more united than ever before. They may be flawed and imperfect, but they are bound together by their shared history and the love they have for one another.

“Kingdom Come” is a heartfelt and poignant exploration of family, forgiveness, and the power of love to heal old wounds. Through its relatable characters, witty humor, and touching moments, the film offers a heartfelt portrayal of the complexities of family relationships and the importance of coming together in times of need.
