The film begins with Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill), a renowned paleontologist, who has become disillusioned with the commercialization of dinosaurs since his experiences at Jurassic Park. He now spends his days lecturing and advocating for the ethical treatment of dinosaurs.
Meanwhile, a couple, Paul and Amanda Kirby (played by William H. Macy and Téa Leoni), approach Grant with a proposition. They offer to fund his research if he agrees to accompany them on a flight over Isla Sorna, the infamous “Site B” where InGen, the biotechnology company, cloned dinosaurs.
