The film follows Michael Cromwell (played by Tim Allen), a New York commodities broker who learns that his estranged wife Patricia (played by JoBeth Williams) is divorcing him and is living with a tribe in the Amazon rainforest. Shocked by this revelation, Michael travels to the Amazon to finalize their divorce, hoping to persuade Patricia to sign the papers.
Upon arriving in the Amazon, Michael discovers that Patricia has a son named Mimi-Siku (played by Sam Huntington), who is a member of the tribe. Michael is surprised to learn that he has a son and reluctantly agrees to take Mimi-Siku back to New York with him.
As Mimi-Siku adjusts to life in New York City, he struggles to adapt to the unfamiliar culture and customs of modern society. Meanwhile, Michael attempts to bond with his son and teach him the ways of the civilized world, often with comical results.
In the climax of the film, Michael and Mimi-Siku become embroiled in a series of misadventures involving a valuable statue that Mimi-Siku brought back from the Amazon. They must navigate through various obstacles and challenges, including encounters with Patricia’s new boyfriend and a group of criminals who are after the statue.
In the end, Michael and Mimi-Siku work together to outsmart the criminals and recover the stolen statue. Along the way, they develop a stronger bond as father and son, and Michael gains a newfound appreciation for the simple joys of life.
