The story begins with a saber-toothed tiger named Diego (voiced by Denis Leary) sent by his pack leader Soto (voiced by Goran Visnjic) to retrieve a human baby named Roshan, as part of a plan for revenge against the humans who caused injuries to Soto. Meanwhile, a mammoth named Manfred, or Manny (voiced by Ray Romano), saves the human baby from an attack by Soto’s pack.
As Manny intends to return the baby to its family, he encounters a sloth named Sid (voiced by John Leguizamo), who is being pursued by a group of rhinos after ruining their food. Reluctantly, Manny allows Sid to join them on their journey. However, Diego, posing as a friendly fellow traveler, secretly joins them to fulfill his mission of retrieving the baby for Soto.
As they travel together, the unlikely trio faces various challenges and obstacles, including encounters with a tribe of dodos and a flock of flightless birds. Along the way, they develop a bond and learn to work together despite their differences.
As they journey to return the baby to its human tribe, Diego’s true intentions are revealed when he tries to lead Manny and Sid into an ambush by Soto and his pack. However, Diego’s conscience is pricked by Manny’s kindness and loyalty, and he ultimately betrays his pack to save Manny and the baby.
In a climactic showdown, Diego sacrifices himself to save Manny and the baby from Soto’s attack. With the help of Sid and other animals they’ve encountered on their journey, Manny and the baby defeat Soto and his pack, emerging victorious.
As the ice age comes to an end and the landscape begins to thaw, Manny, Sid, and the baby reunite with the baby’s human family. Diego, who was presumed dead, miraculously survives and is welcomed into the group as an honorary member.
The film ends with Manny, Sid, Diego, and the baby setting off on new adventures together, forging a lasting bond and embarking on a journey of friendship and camaraderie.
