Evening

In the climax of the film, Ann Grant Lord (played by Vanessa Redgrave) reveals a long-held secret to her daughters as she nears the end of her life.

Throughout the movie, Ann reflects on a weekend she spent at a wedding in Newport, Rhode Island, many years ago. She recalls her love affair with Harris Arden (played by Patrick Wilson) and the impact it had on her life.
