The film follows Slim Hiller, a young waitress living in an abusive marriage with her wealthy and controlling husband, Mitch Hiller (played by Billy Campbell). Despite the facade of a perfect life, Slim endures physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Mitch, who becomes increasingly violent and possessive.
After discovering Mitch’s infidelity and realizing the danger she and her daughter, Gracie (played by Tessa Allen), are in, Slim decides to leave her husband and start a new life. With the help of her friend Ginny (played by Juliette Lewis), Slim flees with Gracie and goes into hiding, determined to protect herself and her daughter from Mitch’s wrath.
As Slim and Gracie attempt to rebuild their lives, Mitch launches a relentless campaign to track them down and reclaim control over them. He hires private investigators and uses his wealth and influence to intimidate and manipulate those around him, making it difficult for Slim to stay hidden.
Despite the obstacles and threats they face, Slim refuses to back down and decides to take matters into her own hands. She undergoes intense physical training and learns self-defense techniques in preparation for a confrontation with Mitch.
In the film’s climax, Mitch finally tracks down Slim and Gracie, leading to a violent showdown at Slim’s mother’s remote cabin. Slim confronts Mitch and fights back against his attempts to harm her and Gracie, using her newfound strength and determination to outsmart and defeat him.
In the end, Slim emerges victorious, having overcome her fears and fought back against her abuser. She and Gracie are reunited and free from Mitch’s control, ready to start a new life together.
