The film begins with the introduction of Al Connelly (played by Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Imogen (Immy) (played by Julia Stiles), two college students who meet and fall in love during their freshman year at a New York City university. Al is a laid-back aspiring chef, while Immy is an aspiring artist with a free-spirited personality.

As Al and Immy’s relationship blossoms, they experience the joys and challenges of young love. They share romantic moments, go on adventures together, and support each other’s dreams and aspirations. However, their relationship is tested when they face obstacles such as jealousy, insecurity, and miscommunication.

One of the main conflicts arises when Al’s friend and roommate, Eddie Hicks (played by Shawn Hatosy), confesses his feelings for Immy, leading to tension and jealousy between the friends. Immy also struggles with her own insecurities about her career as an artist and worries that she is not good enough for Al.

Despite their ups and downs, Al and Immy remain deeply in love and committed to each other. They share intimate moments, including a memorable night at a karaoke bar where they express their love through song.

However, their relationship is ultimately put to the test when Immy decides to pursue her dream of studying abroad in Spain. Al is initially supportive of Immy’s decision but becomes increasingly anxious about the prospect of a long-distance relationship.

In a series of flashbacks, the film reveals that Al and Immy’s relationship ultimately ends due to their inability to overcome their differences and maintain a strong connection. They go their separate ways, each pursuing their own paths in life.

In the end, the film concludes with Al and Immy reflecting on their relationship and the lessons they’ve learned about love, friendship, and growing up. Despite their breakup, they remain fond of each other and cherish the memories they shared together.

“Down to You” is a heartfelt and relatable romantic comedy that explores the complexities of love and relationships. With its engaging characters, witty humor, and poignant moments, the film offers a charming and entertaining look at the trials and tribulations of young love.
