August: Osage County

The story revolves around the Weston family, living in Osage County, Oklahoma. When the family patriarch, Beverly Weston (played by Sam Shepard), goes missing, his three daughters return to their childhood home to support their mother, Violet (played by Meryl Streep). The reunion brings with it a host of long-buried resentments and family secrets.

The three daughters are Barbara (played by Julia Roberts), Ivy (played by Julianne Nicholson), and Karen (played by Juliette Lewis). As they navigate the challenges of dealing with their troubled mother and their own personal issues, tensions rise, leading to confrontations and revelations.

In the climax, family secrets come to light, and long-standing conflicts reach a boiling point during a tense family dinner. The resolution involves each family member coming to terms with their past and deciding how to move forward in the aftermath of the emotional turmoil.

“August: Osage County” received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for the powerful performances, particularly those of Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. The film’s intense and emotional portrayal of familial dysfunction was both applauded and criticized for its dark and sometimes harrowing themes. Despite the mixed critical reception, the performances earned several award nominations, including Academy Award nominations for Streep and Roberts.
