The film is set in the futuristic Metro City, where humans and robots coexist. The city is ruled by President Stone (voiced by Donald Sutherland), who oversees the production of advanced robots to serve humanity. Dr. Tenma (voiced by Nicolas Cage) is a brilliant scientist who works for the Ministry of Science and is grieving the loss of his son, Toby (voiced by Freddie Highmore), who died in a tragic accident.
Dr. Tenma creates a robotic replica of Toby using cutting-edge technology, hoping to replace his lost son. However, when the robot does not meet his expectations, Dr. Tenma rejects him and abandons him in the streets. The rejected robot, now named Astro (voiced by Freddie Highmore), is discovered by a junkyard dealer named Hamegg (voiced by Nathan Lane), who sees potential in him.
Astro soon discovers that he possesses incredible abilities, including super strength, flight, and the ability to shoot energy blasts from his hands. He also learns that he is not human but a powerful robot with a unique energy core called the Blue Core.
As Astro tries to navigate the complexities of his new identity, he encounters a variety of characters, both human and robot. He befriends a group of orphaned children living in the slums of Metro City and becomes their protector. However, Astro’s existence threatens President Stone’s plans for world domination, leading to a confrontation between the two.
In the climax of the film, President Stone unleashes an army of advanced military robots to destroy Astro and take control of Metro City. Astro must use his powers and courage to save the city and its inhabitants from destruction. With the help of his friends and allies, including Dr. Elefun (voiced by Bill Nighy) and the rebel robot Zane (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson), Astro confronts President Stone and his army in an epic battle.
Ultimately, Astro proves himself to be a true hero, willing to sacrifice everything to protect the people he cares about. He defeats President Stone and his army, saving Metro City from disaster. In the aftermath of the battle, Astro is hailed as a hero by the citizens of Metro City, who finally accept him for who he is.
