The film is set in an ant colony and follows the story of Z-4195, or “Z” for short (voiced by Woody Allen), an individualistic and neurotic worker ant who feels disillusioned with the rigid social structure of the colony.
Z is in love with Princess Bala (voiced by Sharon Stone), but she is engaged to the colony’s bumbling General Mandible (voiced by Gene Hackman). Feeling insignificant and unappreciated, Z seeks meaning and purpose in his life.
