The story revolves around two young girls from different backgrounds who look identical but lead very different lives. Amanda Lemmon (played by Mary-Kate Olsen) is a street-smart orphan who lives in a foster home, while Alyssa Callaway (played by Ashley Olsen) is a wealthy girl raised by her single father, Roger Callaway (played by Steve Guttenberg).
During a summer camp trip, Amanda and Alyssa meet and realize they look exactly alike. They decide to switch places for a short time to experience each other’s lives. While Alyssa explores life outside of her privileged upbringing, Amanda enjoys the comforts of wealth and luxury.
