The film follows the story of Jack Crow (played by James Woods) and his team of vampire hunters, who are employed by the Catholic Church to eradicate a nest of vampires led by the powerful Valek (played by Thomas Ian Griffith).
The movie begins with Jack and his team launching a successful raid on a vampire nest in New Mexico, during which they kill numerous vampires and retrieve a valuable relic. However, their victory is short-lived as Valek, the master vampire, emerges and slaughters most of Jack’s team, including his longtime friend and mentor, Father Adam Guiteau (played by Tim Guinee).
Determined to avenge his fallen comrades and destroy Valek once and for all, Jack teams up with a prostitute named Katrina (played by Sheryl Lee), who has been bitten by Valek but has not yet turned into a vampire. Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to track down Valek and prevent him from unleashing a vampire apocalypse.
As Jack and Katrina pursue Valek across the southwestern United States, they encounter numerous obstacles and challenges, including attacks from other vampires and interference from the Catholic Church, which is divided over how to deal with the vampire threat.
In a climactic showdown, Jack and Valek face off in a deserted ghost town, where Jack’s team sets a trap for Valek using the relic they retrieved earlier. In a fierce battle, Jack and Valek engage in hand-to-hand combat, with Jack ultimately emerging victorious by impaling Valek with a makeshift stake.
With Valek destroyed, Jack and Katrina celebrate their victory, knowing that they have saved countless lives and prevented the vampire threat from spreading further. However, Jack is left disillusioned and bitter, realizing that the war against the vampires is far from over and that he may never find redemption for his past sins.
“Vampires” is praised for its stylish direction, intense action sequences, and James Woods’ electrifying performance as the hardened vampire hunter, Jack Crow. It’s a gritty and atmospheric take on the vampire genre that combines elements of horror, western, and action cinema, delivering plenty of thrills and chills for fans of the genre.
