The film follows a group of strangers who are invited to spend the night in the abandoned Vannacutt Psychiatric Institute, a notoriously haunted asylum. The invitation is extended by Steven Price (played by Geoffrey Rush), a wealthy and eccentric theme park mogul, who promises each guest $1 million if they can survive the night.
The guests include Price’s wife, Evelyn (played by Famke Janssen), a television journalist named Sara Wolfe (played by Ali Larter), a young doctor named Eddie (played by Taye Diggs), a former baseball player named Watson (played by Chris Kattan), and a neurotic executive named Melissa (played by Bridgette Wilson).
