The film centers around Joel Campbell (played by James Spader), a former FBI agent who is haunted by his failure to capture a notorious serial killer known as David Allen Griffin (played by Keanu Reeves). After a traumatic encounter with Griffin, Joel retires from the FBI and moves to Chicago in an attempt to start a new life.
However, Joel’s peaceful existence is shattered when Griffin resurfaces and begins sending him photographs of his intended victims, taunting him to catch him once again.
