The film picks up several years after the events of the first movie. Rick O’Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evelyn (played by Rachel Weisz) are now married and have an eight-year-old son named Alex (played by Freddie Boath). They continue their work as explorers and archaeologists, searching for ancient artifacts and treasures.
Meanwhile, in ancient Egypt, the High Priest Imhotep (played by Arnold Vosloo) is resurrected once again, this time by the followers of the evil sorceress Anck-Su-Namun (also played by Patricia Velásquez), who seek to resurrect her as well. Imhotep’s goal is to use the Bracelet of Anubis to defeat the Scorpion King (played by Dwayne Johnson), an ancient warrior cursed by the gods, and take control of his army of Anubis warriors.
When Alex discovers the Bracelet of Anubis while on a dig with his parents, he unwittingly becomes a target for Imhotep and his followers. The O’Connell family finds themselves in a race against time to stop Imhotep from using the bracelet to awaken the Scorpion King and unleash his army upon the world.
Joined by their old friend Jonathan Carnahan (played by John Hannah) and the Medjai warrior Ardeth Bay (played by Oded Fehr), Rick and Evelyn embark on a globe-trotting adventure filled with danger, excitement, and supernatural encounters. Along the way, they must contend with mummies, giant pygmy mummies, and other mythical creatures as they search for a way to defeat Imhotep and save their son.
