The story begins with Roxie Hart (played by Renée Zellweger), a young and ambitious chorus girl who dreams of stardom. Roxie is having an affair with Fred Casely (played by Dominic West), a sleazy furniture salesman who promises to make her a star. When Fred reneges on his promise, Roxie shoots him in a fit of rage.

Roxie’s husband Amos (played by John C. Reilly) is shocked to discover his wife’s crime but agrees to take the blame for her in the hopes of protecting her reputation. However, Roxie soon realizes that she must take matters into her own hands if she wants to avoid prison.

Roxie is arrested and sent to Cook County Jail, where she meets Velma Kelly (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones), a famous vaudeville performer who is also awaiting trial for murder. Velma warns Roxie that she will need a good lawyer if she hopes to win her case.

Enter Billy Flynn (played by Richard Gere), a slick and manipulative lawyer who agrees to represent Roxie in exchange for a hefty fee. With Billy’s help, Roxie becomes a media sensation, garnering public sympathy and turning her trial into a media circus.

As Roxie’s trial unfolds, she manipulates the media and the courtroom to her advantage, using her newfound fame to her advantage. Meanwhile, Velma grows increasingly resentful of Roxie’s success and plots to sabotage her case.

In a shocking twist, Velma’s lawyer reveals evidence that exonerates Roxie, leading to her acquittal. Roxie emerges from the trial as a free woman and a newfound celebrity, achieving the fame and fortune she always dreamed of.
