The story begins with Charlie Hinton (played by Eddie Murphy), a marketing executive, losing his job at a cereal company due to downsizing. Unable to find new employment and facing financial difficulties, Charlie decides to become a stay-at-home dad and take care of his young son, Ben (played by Khamani Griffin).
Charlie’s wife, Kim (played by Regina King), returns to work as a lawyer, leaving Charlie in charge of Ben’s care during the day. However, Charlie quickly discovers that taking care of Ben is more challenging than he anticipated, especially when he struggles to find affordable childcare options.
Desperate to find a solution, Charlie teams up with his friend Phil (played by Jeff Garlin), who is also unemployed, to open a daycare center in their home. Together, they transform their house into “Daddy Day Care,” a fun and unconventional daycare center for working parents.
As Daddy Day Care begins to attract more children, including the mischievous Dylan (played by Max Burkholder) and the shy Becca (played by Elle Fanning), Charlie and Phil must navigate the challenges of running a daycare, including potty training accidents, food fights, and temper tantrums.
In the climax of the film, Daddy Day Care faces competition from a prestigious preschool called Chapman Academy, run by the strict and authoritarian Miss Harridan (played by Anjelica Huston). Determined to prove themselves, Charlie and Phil organize a series of creative and engaging activities for the children to showcase the benefits of Daddy Day Care.
In the end, Daddy Day Care emerges victorious, winning over the parents and children with their nurturing approach to childcare. Miss Harridan is exposed for her unethical practices, and Daddy Day Care becomes a thriving business, providing a loving and supportive environment for children and their families.
