In a world devastated by war and ruled by machines, a scientist creates nine small, sentient ragdoll-like beings called “Stitchpunks” in an attempt to preserve humanity’s essence. Each of the Stitchpunks is numbered and possesses a unique trait or skill.
The film begins with the awakening of the ninth Stitchpunk, simply called “9”, in a decimated laboratory. He discovers a world devoid of life and overrun by menacing mechanical creatures. As he explores his surroundings, he encounters another Stitchpunk, 2, who has been captured by a mechanical beast. Despite 9’s efforts to save him, 2 is taken away and destroyed.
Determined to understand what happened to his creator and the world around him, 9 embarks on a quest to find answers. Along the way, he encounters other Stitchpunks, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. They include 1, the leader; 5, the engineer; 6, the visionary artist; 7, the fierce warrior; and others.
As the group journeys through the desolate landscape, they come across clues left behind by their creator, which lead them to a hidden sanctuary. There, they discover the scientist’s workshop and a holographic recording revealing that the machines were created for peaceful purposes but turned against humanity. The scientist created the Stitchpunks to carry on humanity’s spirit and find a way to defeat the machines.
Their sanctuary is soon discovered by a monstrous machine known as the “Fabrication Machine,” which captures and absorbs the souls of the fallen Stitchpunks to enhance its power. In a climactic battle, the remaining Stitchpunks confront the Fabrication Machine to prevent it from exterminating all life on Earth.
Through courage, teamwork, and sacrifice, the Stitchpunks manage to destroy the Fabrication Machine and restore peace to their world. However, several Stitchpunks are lost in the battle, including 9, who sacrifices himself to ensure the survival of his friends.
In the end, the remaining Stitchpunks rebuild their world and set out to create a new future, honoring the memory of those who came before them and the sacrifices they made. The film ends with a hopeful note, suggesting that life will continue to flourish in the wake of destruction.
