The film opens with a prologue in which a young girl named Tiana and her father, James, listen to a fairy tale about a princess kissing a frog and breaking a spell. Inspired by the story, Tiana dreams of opening her own restaurant, while her friend Charlotte dreams of marrying a prince.
Years later, Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) is now a young woman working multiple jobs to save money for her restaurant. Meanwhile, Prince Naveen of Maldonia (voiced by Bruno Campos) arrives in New Orleans, hoping to marry a wealthy woman to solve his financial problems. However, he is tricked by the wicked Dr. Facilier (voiced by Keith David) into becoming a frog.
Lost in the Louisiana bayou, Naveen encounters a voodoo priestess named Mama Odie (voiced by Jenifer Lewis), who tells him that he must find true love’s kiss to break the spell. Mistakenly believing that Tiana is a princess, Naveen convinces her to kiss him, but instead of breaking the spell, Tiana also turns into a frog.
Together, Tiana and Naveen embark on a journey through the bayou to find Mama Odie and break the curse. Along the way, they encounter various colorful characters, including Louis, a jazz-loving alligator (voiced by Michael-Leon Wooley), and Ray, a lovable firefly (voiced by Jim Cummings), who help them on their quest.
As Tiana and Naveen grow closer, they begin to realize their true feelings for each other. However, they must confront Dr. Facilier, who seeks to use their love to further his own sinister plans.
In the film’s climax, Tiana and Naveen confront Dr. Facilier in a dramatic showdown, ultimately defeating him with the help of their friends. In the end, Tiana and Naveen are restored to their human forms, and they marry in a joyous celebration attended by their friends and family.
