It’s Complicated

The story revolves around Jane Adler (played by Meryl Streep), a successful bakery owner and divorced mother of three grown children. Jane’s ex-husband, Jake (played by Alec Baldwin), left her years ago for a younger woman, Agness (played by Lake Bell), who is now his wife. Despite their divorce, Jane and Jake maintain an amicable relationship for the sake of their children.

When Jane’s youngest daughter, Lauren (played by Caitlin Fitzgerald), graduates from college, Jane travels to New York City to attend the ceremony. While there, she reconnects with Jake, and the two share a night of passion. Jane is initially conflicted about their encounter but finds herself drawn to Jake once again.

Meanwhile, Jane also meets Adam Schaffer (played by Steve Martin), the architect hired to remodel her home. Adam is a kind and charming man who shares Jane’s love for architecture and design. The two develop a close friendship, and Jane finds herself falling for Adam’s thoughtful and considerate nature.

As Jane navigates her complicated romantic entanglements with Jake and Adam, she grapples with her own feelings of guilt, uncertainty, and longing. She must decide whether to pursue a new relationship with Adam or rekindle her romance with Jake, despite the complications of their past.

In the midst of Jane’s romantic dilemma, her children also face their own challenges in love and relationships. Lauren struggles with commitment issues, while her sons, Luke (played by Hunter Parrish) and Jake (played by John Krasinski), navigate their own romantic interests and personal growth.

In the climax of the film, Jane comes to a realization about her true feelings for both Jake and Adam. She confronts Jake about their past and expresses her desire to move forward with her life. At the same time, she acknowledges her deep connection with Adam and the potential for a new beginning.

In the end, Jane makes a bold decision to follow her heart and pursue a future with Adam, despite the uncertainty and challenges that lie ahead. She embraces the complexities of love and relationships, finding happiness and fulfillment in the journey of self-discovery.
