Carrie

The story revolves around Carrie White (played by Chlo‘ Grace Moretz), a shy and socially awkward high school student who experiences her first menstruation while in the locker room, leading to ridicule and bullying from her classmates. Unbeknownst to everyone, Carrie possesses telekinetic powers that become increasingly powerful as she struggles to control her emotions.

Carrie’s overbearing and fanatically religious mother, Margaret White (played by Julianne Moore), suppresses and punishes Carrie for her abilities, believing them to be a manifestation of sin. As Carrie faces relentless bullying at school, especially from the popular Chris Hargensen (played by Portia Doubleday), her classmate Sue Snell (played by Gabriella Wilde) tries to make amends by convincing her boyfriend, Tommy Ross (played by Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to the prom.

In the climax, Carrie attends the prom, where she experiences a brief moment of happiness. However, a cruel prank orchestrated by Chris and her boyfriend leads to a traumatic and destructive telekinetic outburst from Carrie. The resolution involves a vengeful confrontation between Carrie and those who tormented her.

“Carrie” received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for Chlo‘ Grace Moretz’s performance but criticism for its comparisons to Brian De Palma’s 1976 adaptation and the choice to update certain elements. The film explores themes of bullying, the consequences of religious fanaticism, and the impact of trauma on an individual with supernatural abilities.
