The story follows a brother and sister, Ronan (played by Mark Hapka) and Beatrix Carver (played by Jessica Rothe), who attend an appointment at a storage facility to collect their late father’s belongings. However, they soon discover a mysterious and unexplained phenomenon that transports them to a parallel Earth.
In this parallel world, they encounter variations of people and places that exist in their own reality. Along with a fellow traveler named Harold (played by Eric Jungmann), they try to make sense of the situation and find a way back home. The trio discovers a building known as the Building, which serves as a hub connecting various parallel Earths.
As they explore different versions of Earth, encountering both similarities and differences, the characters face challenges and threats from the mysterious organization known as The Convergence. The Convergence seeks to control and manipulate the parallel worlds for its own purposes.
In the climax, the characters confront The Convergence and attempt to resist its influence. The film ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the fate of the characters and the mysteries of the parallel worlds unresolved.
“Parallels” was initially created as a pilot for a potential television series, and its open-ended conclusion was intended to lead into further episodes. While it garnered interest for its intriguing premise, the series was not picked up, and the film remains a standalone exploration of parallel universes.
